Fun with color gels in a portrait session Allison Miller

Recently I've enjoyed finding new uses of color gels in my photography. These 3 images of the lovely Allison Miller feature a few different in camera techniques. Thank you Alli for improvising on these looks with me!

The above image uses 3 different color gels, all held close to the lens so they are blurred and distorted. That with the magenta seamless creates a subtle frame around her that I'm really happy with.

For this portrait, I tried something totally new for me whcih involved cutting shapes from different color gels and taping them to a clear sheet. This sheet, held in front of the subject but closer to the lens creates soft shapes of color.

For this final image, the single sheet of color gel held at a specific distance between her face and the light source created this more defined line.
